In third grade, your child will be reading more difficult stories and will be asked to tell about the story. They will be reading independently, as well as reading along with the teacher. Please work on having your child write about what they read, as well as telling characters, setting, and plot. This year is very exciting because your child will be taking the statewide test called MSA. The test is given in March. Your child will be expected to write about what they have read by discussing the title, fantasy vs. realism, character traits, as well as many other skills. In math, your child will be expected to no only solve problems, but also explain all the steps they took to solve the problem. Have your child explain what they did to you and then do what they said to see if you get the same answer. Ask your child's teacher how you can help review skills at home in reading and math.Supply List - Click for the school supply list. Remember, you may need to replenish these supplies during the year because they are all used. Ask the teacher if they need more.
