September 2017                                                     Themes: Going Back to School and Colors

Welcome to Preschool! Each month I will send home Preschool News which has our curriculum information for the month. Since school now starts after Labor Day, I am combining August and September curriculum together. Preschool curriculum is themes that last each month, two books that are read every day (one book for two weeks) that relate to the theme, songs, finger plays, and nursery rhymes. I send home the lyrics for you to practice at home.  I look forward to watching your child learn and grow!

Books

  • August Books (Going Back to School):  Mouse's First Day of School by Lauren Thompson
  • September  Books (Colors): Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr and Dog’s Colorful Day by Emma Dodd

Nursery Rhymes

  • Mary Had a Little Lamb (August)

Mary had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb Mary had a little lamb

Whose fleece was white as snow.

And everywhere that Mary went, Mary went, Mary went, And everywhere that Mary went the lamb was sure to go!

It followed her to school one day, school one day, school one day, It followed her to school one day which was against the rules.

  • Baa Baa Black Sleep (September)

Baa, baa, black sheep, have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full!

    One for the master,
    One for the dame,
And one for the little boy
    Who lives down the lane

    Baa, baa, black sheep,
    Have you any wool?
    Yes sir, yes sir
    Three bags full

    Finger Plays

  • Five Little Colorful Birds (September)

(Use your fingers to represent the birds)

Five little colorful birds, hoping by the door,

The red one went to build a nest, then there were four.

Four little colorful birds singing happily,

The blue one got out of tune, and then there were three.

Three little colorful birds, and what should one do,

The yellow one went to search for dinner, leaving only two.

Two little colorful birds, singing for fun,

The green one flew away, and then there was one.

One little black bird sitting in the sun,

He took a little nap, and then there was none.

    Songs

    • Five Green and Speckled Frogs (August)

Five green and speckled frogs sat on a speckled log
Eating some most delicious bugs -- YUM YUM!
One jumped into the pool where it was nice and cool
Then there were four green and speckled frogs.

Four green and speckled frogs sat on a speckled log
Eating some most delicious bugs -- YUM YUM!
One jumped into the pool where it was nice and cool
Then there were three green and speckled frogs.

Three green and speckled frogs sat on a speckled log

Eating some most delicious bugs -- YUM YUM!

One jumped into the pool where it was nice and cool

Then there were two green and speckled frogs.

Two green and speckled frogs sat on a speckled log
Eating some most delicious bugs -- YUM YUM!
One jumped into the pool where it was nice and cool
Then there was one green and speckled frogs.
